Hey everyone, I hate to be a huge downer and stuff, but I have something serious I’d like to talk about. I volunteer with a local no-kill cat shelter on O’ahu. Meaning, we don’t euthanize any of our babies and sometimes end up being the place where many abused and damaged kitties stay for the rest of their life because no one else is willing to take them. Having said that, we have a wonderful adoption program for our healthy babies, and we’re thankful for all the forever homes we’ve found for so many of our rescues, places where they are loved and safe. I’m putting up a few pics of our own to demonstrate the kind of stuff we do.
The little bottle baby you see up there was just rescued. Someone had put him and four other baby kittens in a box and tossed them in the garbage like they were trash. All of them were emaciated, anemic and suffering from nasty upper respiratory infections and conjunctivitis. While they would’ve been put down immediately at most shelters (like the humane society) or any other high-kill shelter, we took them in and are working on making them better.
The second pic is of one of our catteries. It’s what one of the portable housing units look like where the cats hang out and love living their lives :)
The third is of one of the adoptions we had this year! This is one of 2 baby kittens that were found in Wai‘anae, O‘ahu earlier this year and rescued by us. Both were born with birth defects that resulted in them needing expensive surgeries to have both eyes removed. After the surgery they were able to be adopted by a wonderful home.
The fourth is of Molly, one of the forever-stays with JFF. She was severely burned all over her body when she was set on fire by her previous owner. They also had disconnected her tail from her spine, resulting in it having to be amputated. Because of this, she has a lot of issues going to the bathroom and she almost didn’t make it. Now she’s happy and surprisingly sweet, for a girl who went through so much. Molly really shows that you can pull through anything.
So. I’m sure you’re wondering what the punchline is. Why I’m telling you all this? Well. It’s because Joey’s is going under. They’re over 10k in debt to vets from having to do so much medical care, and after some major donors pulled funding from their own financial issues, JFF is completely screwed.
Aha you say. I knew it! This is about money.
Yeah, yeah it is. But it’s not really. Because even though we’re asking for donations and that was the whole purpose of this post, it’s actually about something else. It’s about being able to continue providing care and rescue to all the abused kitties on our island. Which we won’t be able to do anymore if we can’t get funding to pay off our vets. We won’t be able to support the kitties anymore, and I don’t even want to think about what’s going to happen if we’re forced to close down the shelter.
So yeah. Please just, take a look at their website where you can see here. Or if you want to help kitties like Molly by providing for our shelter so we can continue to give care and rescue, you can do so here. We’ve only got 24 days to go and we’re nowhere near the goal. I know you hear the saying a lot, but seriously, even a buck really does help.
Thank you for making it through this and reading it all! Even a signal boost, like a reblog, would mean so much to me and Joey’s.
